Despite the AOC, wines had to be sold onder the Ctes du Rhne Villages designation until 1996 when Rasteau was one of the villages names that could be added. By the 2009 vintage, it had become its own appelation, no longer needing to be labeled as Ctes du Rhne Villages at all.
